During an interview in October of 2011, talk show icon Oprah Winfrey sat down and discussed love, weight, and politics with New Jersey Republican Gov. Chris Christie. On love, Gov. Christie tells Winfrey ways in which his wife, Mary Pat, made her way to his heart while they attended college in the 1980s. Along with her faith and independence, Christie said, “She was fun in a different way than I’d ever experienced with anybody I’d ever dated. She was very spontaneous.”

Winfrey and Christie also spoke about their struggles with weight and coping with criticism surrounding it. Oprah says the fat jokes “bothered” her, but Christie said he developed “a shell about it.” As their conversation took a political turn, Winfrey asked the governor what advice he had for President Barack Obama, who she openly endorsed in 2008, and what he thought about Obama’s chances for re-election. “He is as good a politician as I’ve ever seen,” Christie said. “I think what he says he believes he believes. That’s a very dangerous politician.” The interview will air on Sunday at 9 p.m. EST on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).
