New Poet Laureate to give reading at Library of Congress

New Poet Laureate and Emory creative writing professor Natasha Twethewey will be giving her 1st reading in Washington. The reading is free to everyone and will take place Thursday evening. She won the Pulitzer Prize in poetry in 2007. Her work focuses on history that has been obscured, forgotten, or lost.

Twethewey was born in Mississippi and is the first native southern to receive the award since the mid-80s. Part of the Poet Laureate’s duties is to raise awareness of poetry and try to spread the reading and writing of poetry in general. The list for Poet Laureates includes William Carlos Williams, Robert Frost, and Gwendolyn Brooks. She will be giving her reading at the Library of Congress in Washington at 7 P.M, not tickets are required but early attendance is strongly encouraged.
