New Express Lanes means faster commutes, but at a price

0

As new roads open up to make commuting easier, commuters have a choice to stay in traffic or use the new express lanes to make an easier commute at a higher price. The new ICC has drivers paying a toll to drive in minimal traffic, and the same is expected to happen when the Beltway Express Lanes in Virginia open to the public. The speed limit on both is set at 55 mph, but that soon may be changing.

The new speed limits come at a time when a Texas toll road is putting a speed limit of 85 mph on one of their toll roads. This means that states may copy Texas incentives of raising its speed limit to get more people on toll roads for a faster, but not necessarily safer commute. The Texas Department of Transportation says the toll road has been tested and constructed to go at high speeds.
