CW’s new smash sitcom “Jane the Virgin” and HBO’s “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” are among the winners in the first round of the 2015 Peabody Awards. Others winners for this year include: “The Americans,” “Fargo,” “The Honorable Woman,” “Inside Amy Schumer,” “The Knick,” “Rectify,” and “Black Mirror,” an English TV anthology of macabre tales. Individual and institutional Peabody Awards are also being given to Sir David Attenborough, the veteran British naturalist and broadcaster, and “Afropop Worldwide,” a public radio program which presents the musics of Africa and the African diaspora. Peabody news and radio winners will be publicized Monday, followed on Thursday by honorees in the public service, education, documentary, and children’s programming areas. Winners will receive their statuettes on May 31 in New York City. The ceremony will be featured in a Peabody special airing June 21 on the digital cable channel Pivot. The awards are determined by the board of the George Foster Peabody Awards at the University of Georgia.
