New steel spikes approved to deter White House fence jumpers

According to internal documents obtained by NBC Washington, the National Park Service is expected to authorize the new addition of steel spikes atop the security fence to discourage potential jumpers. The federal agency also is contemplating raising the fence to ten feet high or adding a second one. An indestructible replacement fence should be completed by the end of 2016 and will likely include iron spikes. The National Capital Planning Commission will decide whether to approve the changes in a May 7 meeting. Investigative reporter Scott MacFarlane announced the news on Twitter, and included an improvements study document in the posting. The U.S. Commission of Fine Arts will make the final decision.
