“Harry’s Law” star Kathy Bates undergoes masectomy in her fight against breast cancer

Oscar winning actress Kathy Bates, who recently overcame ovarian cancer, quietly underwent a double mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer two months earlier. “Luckily,” she told People Magazine, “I don’t have to undergo radiation or chemo.” While an active advocate for others who struggle with cancer, Bates prefers to keep her own fight under the rug, stating, “I really don’t want to define myself that way.” Bates’ prognosis is good, and because her cancer was detected early and treated quickly, doctors believe she will soon be back to full health. Bates is looking forward to returning to television, writing on her Twitter account, “I don’t miss my breasts as much as I miss Harry’s Law.”
