Former Motown king Nickolas Ashford of Ashford and Simpson dies at 69


Nickolas Ashford, the former member of the Motown duo Ashford and Simpson has died at age 69 according to his longtime former publicist Liz Rosenberg. Ashford, whose death was considered “quite sudden,” was involved in a battle with throat cancer.

“He was a true king,” she said. “I loved him very much,” Rosenberg said. He is survived by his wife and songwriting partner Valerie Simpson. The two met in New York City in 1964.
