Rock star Jon Bon Jovi and his wife Dorothea have opened a charity restaurant near the Red Bank train station in central New Jersey. The “pay what you can” restaurant, called The Soul Kitchen, provides gourmet-quality meals to the hungry while enabling them to volunteer on community projects in return. The restaurant is the latest part of Bon Jovi’s Soul Foundation, which has previously built 250 homes for low-income residents.
Bon Jovi is adamant that his restaurant is not a soup kitchen. The meals served are high quality and nutritious, and guests unable to pay are given a variety of options to contribute to the restaurant or surrounding community.
