New beginning, challenges for Libyans free of Gadhafi

0

With deposed ruler Moammar Gadhafi now dead, Libyans are faced with the task of rebuilding their country and forming a democratic system. Barack Obama congratulated the Libyan people, saying, “You have won your revolution,” while pledging support in Libya’s reconstruction efforts. Gadhafi’s son Saif al-Islam is still alive and unaccounted for, but Libya’s National Transitional Council is confident he will be found soon.

There is still speculation surrounding the specifics of Gadhafi’s death, with reports saying he was caught in a crossfire. Concerns now circulate around Gadhafi’s burial. U.N. human rights office called for an investigation into his death which has delayed proceedings. The transitional council has said it will bury Gadhafi according to Islamic tradition, but a decision has not yet been made about where to bury him.
