After four years in prison and a lengthy trial, Amanda Knox finally returned home after an Italian appeals court overturned her conviction. Knox had been charged with the sexual assault and stabbing of her British roommate, Meredith Kercher. Knox’s acquittal was the result of doubts over DNA evidence, which had cast uncertainty on the case.

Knox returned to her hometown of Seattle on Tuesday, amidst family and supporters. “Thank you to everyone who’s believed in me, who’s defended me, who’s supported my family,” she said. Knox’s father spoke with reporters, saying Amanda would like to eventually return to the University of Washington, but her focus now was on her well-being.
