On Tuesday evening, a 37-year-old man was knocked off of his bike and beaten while riding on the Metropolitan Branch Trail.

The victim was on his way home when he was attacked by at least 15 young people near the neighborhood of Eckington. The victim’s eye was swollen shut, but he was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The attack occurred on a trail that extends from Union Station to Silver Spring. The trail provides one of the few off-road links from the northeastern part of D.C. to Montgomery County.

Cyclists are now questioning the safety of D.C. bike trials.
