White House Shooter makes court appearance

Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez, the man accused of firing shots at the White House in November, is scheduled to be back in court. The incident is considered an attempt to kill the president, even though President Barack Obama was outside the country at the time. Ortega is accused of using an assault rifle to fire at the White House. One bullet was stopped by the ballistic glass of the living quarters, while other bullets were found on the grounds.

Ortega fled the scene, and it took a several-day search before he was turned in to the authorities. Acquaintances say Ortega acted strangely in the months leading up to the incident, believing he was Jesus and calling Obama “the devil.” He was deemed competent to stand trial after a preliminary psychiatric screening, but federal prosecutors asked for more extensive tests.
