Mayor Gray wants to shift city transportation away from cars

Parking in the District is notoriously frustrating–there simply is not enough, it seems. Residents raised concerns at a D.C. Department of Transportation parking summit Wednesday. Mayor Vincent Gray has said he favors an aggressive shift to public transportation, walking, and biking. By 2032, his goal is to have 75% of trips made in the city be by mass transit, by foot, or by bicycle as part of the Sustainable D.C. plan that was released this past April.

City drivers complain that the mayor’s focus away from cars will exacerbate parking concerns. People who spoke at the summit said they would like the city to build parking garages, and lift parking restrictions.
