Bethesda police chief addresses surge in burglaries

After a recent surge in crime–mostly robberies–in Bethesda, Police District commander Capt. David Falcinelli issues a statement detailing the nature of the crimes, and warning residents to remain vigilant. Most of the robberies have been for small electronics and jewelry. Police believe the perpetrators may be casing neighborhoods to find out when people are not home, because the burglaries occur between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., and in at least one case an alarm was set off just moments after the resident left. Falcinelli also urged people to report all crimes, as it can help the police with ongoing investigations, prompt heavier police presence where needed, and provide victim assistance services.
