Gov. warns Virginians, more money needed for transportation

Virginia’s transportation costs are in the news again, as Gov. Bob McDonnell addressed delegates, members of the General Assembly, contractors and state transportation workers in Tyson’s Corner on Wednesday. Tyson’s Corner, the site of new construction as the Metro extended service along the future Silver Line, is just one example of quickly increasing transportation needs in the state. Gov. McDonnell warned that Virginia had to raise at least $500 million in revenue for construction and maintenance of roads each year. Proposed methods of raising the money include increasing the gas tax, adding tolls, and hiking the sales tax. None of these options are popular among Virginians.
