Library art installation for Banned Books Week

UNCENSORED: The Art Exhibition, is a current temporary installation at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in honor of Banned Books Week. The Great Hall of the library has become a gallery of the work of D.C. artists related to the theme. The installation, which contains paintings, installations, performance art and video projections, will be on display until October 15. Banned Books Week, this year from Sept. 21 to 27, is an annual event started in 1987 as a celebration of the freedom to read. In response to the growing number of books banned in schools, bookstores and libraries, the national “book community” holds this event yearly draw attention to the cause. The week is aimed to raise awareness of the books that have been banned, and encourage discussion about censorship in general.
