DC public schools will be allowed another academic year on their extension to the federal education law No Child Left Behind. This extension includes provisions for increased support to struggling schools, and also an agreement that last year’s science tests will not be factored into current performance. The nation is slowly rolling over public schools to the Common Core curricula, in accordance with the 2007 law that required all students to be proficient in math and reading by 2014. With this school board ruling, science test results will not be counted until 2016.
