Founder of the sometimes-controversial fast food chain Chick-fil-A, S Truett Carthy, has died at the age of 93. Carthy had been ailing for some time, reveals his family, and in recent years has stepped back from an active role as the company’s chairman. Carthy was known for his staunch support of Christian religious beliefs, which led to the company coming under fire in 2012 from LGBTQ groups and allies after an interview in which Carthy claimed the “biblical definition of the family unit” as the right one. Chick-fil-A began as a single store in Hapeville, Georgia, and spread across the country. The restaurants are never open on Sundays.
