A 90 year-old waited 45 minutes for an ambulance on Tuesday, after another mistake from the District of Colombia Fire Department. A fire engine crew waited near D Street Southeast for the ambulance, which was rerouted to another call before the elderly woman fell unconscious. The crew loaded her into the fire truck and got her to the hospital. But as to why the ambulance was rerouted in the first place is still unclear. “Our preliminary investigation indicates that a transport unit dispatched to the scene may have been erroneously rerouted. The error appears to have caused a significant delay which led to a patient being transported to the closest hospital by the first arriving paramedic engine company instead of an ambulance or medic unit,” officials from the fire department stated. They offered no more comments, claiming an ongoing investigation is in works.
