Chandra Levy case back in courts, secret hearings held

0

Chandra Levy’s murder in 2001 made headlines throughout the Washington DC area as well as the nation. The young intern at the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Washington, D.C went missing in May of 2011, although her remains were not discovered until a year later, off a jogging path in Rock Creek Park. Her affair with married Congressman Gary Condit led to accusations of conspiracy, but he was later cleared of all connections to her murder. An illegal immigrant who had similarly attacked other female joggers in the area was convicted without any physical evidence linking him to the crime–a former cell mate of his testified that he had confessed to him while in jail. Ingmar Guandique is currently serving 60 years in prison.

This comes in review after the Associated Press reports that a District judge has been conducting closed sessions regarding the Chandra Levy case. None of the lawyers for either side have revealed the purpose of these secret hearings, which have taken place over the past couple of weeks, court records show. Many media outlets are petitioning the court to open the proceedings.
