At approximately 7:30 p.m., a hot air balloon burst into flames and came crashing down after hitting power lines over Doswell, Virginia, about 25 miles north of Richmond. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the balloon, with basket on fire, well above the ground somewhere northeast of Meadow Event Park. Authorities have not yet found the balloon wreckage or any of its three passengers. “We’ve been actively searching,” said Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller. This incident came only hours before the 2014 Mid-Atlantic Balloon Festival, which was set for this weekend. Due to the incident, the festival has been cancelled.
