Tennis champion Marion Bartoli announced she is retiring from the sport on Wednesday. She made the announcement shortly after a second-round loss to Simona Halep during the 2013 Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati. While Bartoli indicated this was a difficult decision, she explained to reporters that the sport was becoming too difficult on her body.
Later in the day, Bartoli tweeted her fans to thank them for their support. She said, “Hey to all of u! 4:55 am can’t sleep of course ,reading all your sweet messages, and it makes me cry, thank u for sending me all this love.” Bartoli earned eight WTA titles during her career including winning Wimbledon this year.
