Former Representative Jesse Jackson Jr. was sentenced to 30 months in prison on Wednesday for misusing campaign funds. Jackson used approximately $750,000 in campaign funds for personal reasons in a period spanning many years. Jackson said during the trial, “I misled the American people”

Jackson’s wife, Sandi was also sentenced to 12 months in prison for assisting her husband in his crimes. U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson said before reading the sentence, “I don’t have to tell you this is a very sad day and a very difficult case.” She told the couple, “You knew better.”
