Tony Bennett draws criticism for 9/11 remarks

Singer Tony Bennett drew criticism Tuesday for his comments on Howard Stern’s show that the U.S. was to blame for the 9/11 attacks. “They flew the plane in, but we caused it,” he told Stern. “Because we were bombing them and they told us to stop.” Later, he apologized for his statement, saying that there was no excuse for terrorism or the murder of 3000 innocent victims.

Bennett added, “I am sorry if my statements suggested anything other than an expression of my love for my country, my hope for humanity and my desire for peace throughout the world.”
