Singer-songwriter Sir Paul McCarthy celebrated his 70th birthday in private on Monday. McCarthy, who has been described by the Guinness World Records as the “most successful composer and recording artist of all time,” shows no signs of slowing down his career. The musician started his career in the 1960s with English rock band The Beatles. The band, which found international success, made hits “Hello, Goodbye,” “Can’t Buy Me Love,” and “”Hey Jude.” But four decades after the group broke up, McCarthy is still booking massive shows and selling out concerts. The Liverpool-native closed Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee with a concert. He’s also preparing for a featured role as the final act at the July 27 opening ceremony of the London Olympics.
John Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono, tweeted birthday wishes to McCartney on Monday. And Paul Weller made a one-day-only digital release of the Beatles song “Birthday” as a tribute.
