After three decades of working together, the band R.E.M. has decided to disband. Band members Michael Stipe, Peter Buck, Mike Mills and Bill Berry began playing together in 1980, and released their first hit single in 1987 with “The One I Love.” The announcement comes six months after the release of their newest album, “Collapse into Now.”
The band is enormously satisfied with what it has been able to accomplish, and with their journey spanning three decades. The decision was not an easy one, according to Michael Mills. The feeling among them is overwhelmingly positive, and the decision came from a desire to end on a good note and walk away as great friends.
