Aretha Franklin wants to join ‘American Idol’

Grammy award-winning singer Aretha Franklin is interested in becoming a judge on the singing competition show, “American Idol.” Franklin, who is often referred to as the “Queen of Soul,” would replace singer-actress Jennifer Lopez, who announced her departure from the show on Saturday. The 70-year-old singer who started her career in the 1960s released hits “Respect,” “Chain of Fools” and “Baby I Love You,” which helped the singer garner 18 Grammys. In 1987, Franklin became the first woman inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and now the singer said through an email that she is interested in joining the “American Idol” team “as a judge.”

Though “American Idol’s” ratings have plummeted in recent years, it is still the most-watched television show contest in the United States.
