Loews Hotels and Twitter make a unique deal

More and more can be done via social networking these days, and now you can start booking hotel rooms on Twitter. Loewes Hotels and Resorts will be starting the “social reservations” program on November 19th, and will be applicable to 16 of its properties. The way it will work is a traveler can tweet Loews Hotels with the hashtag #BookLoews, and then a travel planner will respond and lead the person through the remaining booking procedures.

“I think it is wise for companies to embrace all forms of social media, particularly as the ways in which consumers want to interact with companies are constantly evolving,” said Adam Weissenberg, vice chairman and leader of Deloitte’s U.S. Travel Hospitality and Leisure practice. “For example, 10 years ago, look at how much travel was booked over the phone vs. how much is now booked over the internet.”

Senior vice president of e-commerce and distribution at Loews, Jimmy Suh, feels strongly that the new program will bring more business to the company. “We absolutely feel confident that it increases the value proposition of Loews, because it enables the person to makes a Loews transaction as part of a platform that is part of their daily activity,” he says.
