The president offers a solution to a critical Obamacare flaw

On Thursday, President Obama addressed one of the biggest issues of the Affordable Care Act; Americans being dropped by their insurance plans. Many people found that when they went to register with Obamacare, their policies were dropped by insurers because they did not fit the proper requirements. Now Obama has proposed a solution that will allow many Americans to keep their insurance plans for an additional year. “This fix won’t solve every problem for every person. But it’s going to help a lot of people,” the president said.

However, insurers will not be required to extend pre-existing plans, but rather just offer up another year of insurance. Also, state commissioners must permit extensions and, as the president pointed out, not all states may want to do that.

Obama added in his remarks that he does not want people to lose their insurance just because of his policy. “The key point is that it allows us to be able to say to the folks who receive these notices, look, you know, I, the president of the United States, and the insurance — the insurance model of the Affordable Care Act — is not going to be getting in the way of you shopping in the individual market that you used to have,” he said.
