Apple unveiled a new high-definition iPad on Wednesday, which has a faster processor, a better camera, and a display screen that promises a dramatically sharper image than the current model, the iPad 2. The third generation of its kind is not referred to as the iPad 3, but simply, the new iPad. Apple CEO Tim Cook said, “It is amazing. We’ve taken it to a whole new level, and we are redefining the category that Apple created with the original iPad.”

The new model’s 9.7-inch display screen will feature a “retina display” of 2047 by 1536 pixels, compared to the current model’s 1024 by 768. This gives the new iPad a total of 3.1 million pixels on the display screen. “Your retina in your eye cannot discern those individual pixels. The images on it look stunning,” said Apple Senior Vice President Phil Schiller. “This new iPad has the most wireless bands of any device that has ever shipped, and it is truly revolutionary.” On March 16, the new iPad will be available in the Unites States and 9 other countries. In the U.S., the new iPad will be available on AT&T and Verizon and will be the first iPad to connect to 4G networks with 4G LTE speeds. The iPad will also go on sale in Germany, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong, Puerto Rico, Canada, Singapore, France, Switzerland, the U.K., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The cost is the same as the iPad 2, ranging from $499 to $829 based on storage capacity and Wi-Fi capacity.
