“The New Normal” Debuts with New Stars and Plenty of Criticism

The much anticipated TV show “The New Normal” will premier on NBC with plenty of buzz to go around. The show carries a social message and strong implications about the nature of modern American culture.  The premise of the series is centered on a single mom who decides to answer an advertisement offering $35,000 to women willing to become surrogate mothers for gay couples wanting to start a family. It speaks to hot button social issues in the USA and has drawn a lot of attention from both sides. The organization “One Million Moms” has already organized a campaign to boycott the show and discourage television executives from airing it.  Ryan Murphy believes that if mothers “would watch the show…they’d love it,” since it presents a narrative not only about homosexuality in the USA but motherhood. It’s all a bit overwhelming for Andrew Rannells, who will be making his television debut in The New Normal after spending several years as a Broadway star. “I’m not sure what to make of [being on national TV],” Ranells told AccessHollywood. Rannells will star as Bryan, the other half of the gay couple in the series.
