Chicago teachers went on strike for the 2nd day in a row, causing many problems for parents who have no place to keep or watch their children during the day. Around 350,000 children are not going to school because of the teacher strike. The Chicago teachers are on strike for the first time in 25 years. It’s not clear if school will resume Wednesday, with the school board saying an agreement could come Tuesday, but the teachers union reporting that the board has not changed its stance on key issues like performance evaluations.

Other teacher unions are watching the strike, with many unions negotiating contracts for the upcoming school years. The board offered a 16 percent pay raise over four years, along with a longer school day, but key issues kept the two sides apart on Monday and into Tuesday. The police chief in Chicago said that he put officers in place to keep an eye on riots, but there were no incidents on Monday.
