Footage of a toddler who was the victim of two hit-and-run accidents, and then ignored by many passerby, has sparked outrage online and in the Chinese community. A security camera captured two-year-old Wang Yue as she toddled into the street. A van knocked her over; the driver paused briefly before continuing on. Pedestrians and cyclists ignored her even as a second vehicle drove over her several minutes later.
A 58-year-old woman finally moved the girl to safety. She remains in critical condition, and the drivers of the vehicles have been detained. The incident itself has spurred a larger debate on morality in Chinese society, that so many witnesses remained indifferent.
