Insurgents in Somalia are preventing thousands of starving people from fleeing the country which is currently suffering from a famine, widely believed to be created by the insurgent group themselves who are preventing Western aid organizations from delivering desperately needed food to the decimated area. The group, Shabab Islamist Insurgency, has also set up a cantonment camp where they are imprisoning people trying to escape Shabab territory. Tens of thousands are reported dead due to the famine and roughly 500,000 children are on the brink of starvation.
