A toxic water leak at the Fukushima nuclear power plant has Japan’s Nuclear Regulation Authority prepared to declare it a “serious incident.” Zengo Aizawa, vice president of the Tokyo Electric Power Company believes the plant will need help in order to fix the leak. On Wednesday, he said, “In that sense, we need support, not only from the Japanese government but from the international community to do this job.”

The leak is reportedly caused by damaged reactors. The NRA is conversing with the International Atomic Energy Agency about the extent of the leak. Chairman of the NRA, Shunichi Tanaka, said “Our job is now to lower the risk of these accidents from becoming fatal.”
