Iran ready for nuclear discussions with world powers

0

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad reportedly says that Iran is ready to renew discussions with world powers about forcing Tehran to scale back its nuclear program. Negotiations on this matter ended in deadlock in January 2011. Ahmadinejad remains insistent that Iran will not be forced to give up its demands, which include the continuation to enrich uranium.

The United States and its allies want Iran to stop making nuclear fuel because they are concerned that these actions could lead to weapons-grade material and the production of nuclear weapons. However, Iran says the program is for peaceful purposes, such as generating electricity and producing medical radioisotopes to treat cancer patients. There is no set date for the discussions between Iran and the five permanent U.N. Security Council members plus Germany.
