Germanwings co-pilot Andreas Lubitz revealed to be suicidal

More and more details continue to emerge about the final moments of Germanwings Flight 9525 and the life of the co-pilot who authorities say might have crashed the plane on the purpose. Search parties are recovering remains from the mountainside where the doomed aircraft went down, and investigators in Germany are still hunting for clues. Attention has now focused on the 27-year-old co-pilot, Andreas Lubitz, since recent evidence pointed to him locking the other pilot out of the cockpit and deliberately crashing the plane. News reports have emerged suggesting Lubitz may have been suffering from multiple physical and mental health issues. In part because of this, several doctors deemed Lubitz unfit for flying. It is not known if any suicidal tendencies were reported by Lubitz to the doctors, but investigators are convinced that he was indeed suicidal. Antidepressants and torn-up medical leave notes were discovered in Lubitz’s Dusseldorf, Germany apartment. Germanwings stated it had never received a sick note from Lubitz, and were not even aware of said health issues. Jean Pierre Michel, lead investigator for the French inquiry, said that all possible scenarios are still being explored including mechanical failure, because investigators do not have “the necessary evidence.” Searchers still have yet to find the plane’s flight data recorder, which stores a vast array of data about the aircraft’s performance and could provide investigators with critical information. Germanwings and its parent company, Lufthansa, are still reeling from the horrific incident. Relatives of the victims and local residents have gathered for memorial ceremonies near the crash site in recent days. Flight 9525 (an Airbus A320), took off at 10:01 a.m. March 24 from Barcelona, Spain bound for Dusseldorf. The plane had 150 people on board. The aircraft collided in a remote area near Digne-les-Bains in the Alpes de Haute-Provence region.
