Ford Focus beating out Corolla in worldwide sales

The Ford Focus is on pace to be the bestselling car in the world this year, beating out the Toyota Corolla. During the first half of 2012, consumers chose the Focus 27,000 more times than the Corolla, although the Corolla still beat out the Focus with American consumers. Despite that, sales on the Focus are up 31% more than in 2011. In the US, the Corolla outsold the ford by nearly 27,500.

The announcement came at Ford’s new plant in Rayong, a Thailand plant that can produce 150,000 cars a year. The revamped effort to sell the Focus worldwide is paying off, as the plant sends cars to Thailand, Australia, Vietnam, and other eastern countries. The Corolla still could outpace the Focus to the end of the year. In 2011, the Focus was leading in August, only to lose the lead by 100,000 by the end of the year.
