Washington Wizards help needy families for Thanksgiving

On Sunday afternoon, it was the Wizards to the rescue.

The Washington Wizards teamed up with the Crowder Owens Food Bank and basketball player Chris Singelton’s The L.E.A.G.U.E Foundation to hand out Thanksgiving baskets to over 400 District of Columbia families residing in Ward 5.

The baskets had major ingredients for a Thanksgiving spread including cranberry sauce, string beans, corn bread and candied yams.

President of the food bank, Daniel Thornton says, “All of the fixings for Thanksgiving along with a turkey.”

The event marked a 15-year affiliation between the food bank and the Wizards.

Thornton shared his aspirations for the food bank, “For a small pantry we can’t do all of this by ourselves.  We need to partner with larger organizations to make this happen.”
