Cameras installed at stop signs and crosswalks

District of Columbia police are installing surveillance equipment to monitor infractions at crosswalks, intersections and stop signs.

The newly activated cameras began recording on Saturday and drivers with speeding violations will receive only warnings up until December 29.  As of December 30, citations will be issued.

The cameras were put into place to mainly monitor speeding violations, vehicles “blocking the box” within intersections and the safety of pedestrians.
