In honor of Mother’s Day, a ceremony was held to salute military moms. But the same day was also the anniversary of Victory in Europe Day or VE Day—which is the point at which World War II ended in Europe in 1945. During the ceremony, 10 local veterans laid wreaths at the memorial’s “Freedom Wall” in memory of more than 400,000 Americans killed during the war. 51 World War II veterans from Washington State were also a part of an Honor Flight.
