Two D.C. firefighters have been put on paid administrative leave after being arrested and charged with assaulting police officers in separate incidents in the District and in Anne Arundel County. The both incidents happened within a three-day time span. Twenty-year-old Richard Kirkpatrick, of Northwest, was arrested Tuesday evening in Southeast. He was charged with reckless driving and misdemeanor assault of an officer of the law. The second firefighter, 45-year-old Charles A. Ryan III, of Chesapeake Beach, was charged with disorderly conduct, assault, and failing to obey a police officer in Anne Arundel County Saturday night. Ryan got aggressive with the staff at a pub in Crofton after a manager confronted him about an unpaid bill. Ryan also kicked an officer, but said that an officer also punched him. Both men were released from custody pending their next court dates. Kirkpatrick’s attorney, declined to elaborate on the case. As of Wednesday, Ryan could not be reached for comment.
