A technical error on Sunday night resulted in the Tickermaster automated email system prematurely sending out invitations to purchase public tickets for the Inaugural Parade and the Inaugural Ball. The emails were sent to people who had previously signed up for the chance to acquire one of the limited number of tickets made available to the public. They were supposed to go out on Monday, but an error in the system caused the emails to be sent just before 8p.m. on Sunday, while many area residents were still watching the Redskins playoff game against the Seahawks.
As early as Monday morning, White House officials have reported that all public tickets to the Inaugural Ball have sold out. Ticketmaster has taken responsibility for the mistake.
