A September sentencing date has been set for Washington, D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray’s former campaign aide. On Monday, U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly scheduled sentencing for Howard Brooks on September 24.

Brooks pleaded guilty in May to lying to the FBI regarding payments made to a rival candidate. Brooks is one of two former Gray campaign aides to plead guilty in an ongoing investigation into enigmatic payments made to the minor candidate in the 2010 mayoral race, Sulaimon Brown. The payments were made to keep Brown in the race and continue his attacks on then-incumbent Adrian Fenty, who was seeking a second term. Mayor Gray denies any knowledge or wrongdoings of the payments.
