The opening statements for the trial of alleged shooter of Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor are scheduled to begin Monday.

The 12 person jury gathered to hear evidence last week in the case of the 2007 murder.  The alleged killer, 23-three-year-old Eric Rivera could face a life sentence if convicted.

Taylor was suffering from a knee injury when he was shot during a confrontation involving a group of adolescents who had broken into his Miami home.

Four others are also facing charges.  One pled guilty to second-degree murder as well as burglary charges.  The others await trial at a later date.

Taylor was 24-years-old when he died.
