Memorial Day Parade to honor recently fallen soldiers

Washington, D.C. will be the site of the National Memorial Day Parade for the eighth year in a row, and organizers are pledging to honor the living, along with those who died in war in the current generation. No official parade was given to honor veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars because the Department of Defense believed it inappropriate due to the soldiers that remain in Afghanistan.

Executive director of the American Veterans Center and producer of the National Memorial Day Parade, Tim Holbert, says he is calling on Iraq and Afghanistan war vets to “walk down Constitution (Avenue) in honor of their fallen comrades.” Holbert says the parade will be a great opportunity for veterans and the public to say, “‘Thank you for what you did.’” The parade will be on Constitution Avenue and begins at 2 p.m. on Monday. The parade will also be available online for those who are unable to attend.
