Mayor Vincent Gray’s stance on weed arrests

District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray takes an unconventional stance on marijuana use.

Gray announced for the first time Wednesday that he supports decriminalizing possessions of small amounts of marijuana in Washington. He believes marijuana-related arrests concerning minimal possession can cause significant damage and that the use of marijuana does not cause severe bodily harm.

According to the city’s deputy attorney general for public safety, Andrew Fois, Gray does also support restraints on the bill. He still wants smoking marijuana on sidewalks and public places where there are children around to be illegal.
