Nun in training offered plea in death of her newborn

The 26-year-old woman studying to become a nun was offered a plea deal in the killing of her newborn son.

Sosefina Amoa was offered the plea in D.C. Superior Court Wednesday.  Under the terms she would plead guilty to manslaughter instead of first-degree murder.

She was arrested last week at the Little Sisters of the Poor convent after giving birth to her son and then holding a garment over his face until he stopped breathing.

If Amoa accepts the plea she could face a maximum of 30 years in prison if convicted, rather than a minimum of 30 years if convicted of first-degree murder.
