Mayor Vincent Gray of Washington, D.C. wants stricter sentences for drivers whose intoxication levels are more than twice the legal limit. According to The Washington Examiner, Mayor Gray has introduced a bill that would implement a mandatory sentence of at least 10 days in jail for drivers who register a blood-alcohol level of .20 percent or higher.

The penalty for operating a vehicle with a blood-alcohol concentration of .25 percent or above would increase to a minimum of 15 days in jail. There has not been a date set for the bill to become law. The D.C. Council will begin a two-month recess on Friday.
