Southern University System President Ronald Mason Jr. has been announced as the new leader of the University of the District of Columbia. Mason has been Southern’s president since 2010, but the SU Board of Supervisors opted not to renew his contract past its June 30 expiration date. They are currently in search of a new leader, with the goal of having someone named by July 1. According to the Advocate, Mason was identified as one of three finalists for the job back in March. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser warmly welcomed Mason, and praised the board’s (of the University of the District of Columbia) selection to lead the public historically black college in the nation’s capital.
